My teaching journey began in 2016 with yoga, and I must admit it wasn’t a deliberate choice. I have had my fair share of love hate relationship with body image and staying fit. Diets that helped drop water weight and gain nutrition deficiencies, exercise routines that helped gain endurance but soon resulted in an injury, I have been there and done that.

Eventually, I had to stop. And things only got worse – more weight gain, severe sciatica, and battling depression. But I managed to pull myself together. This time, I began with reasonable dietary changes and long walks. Before long, I felt confident enough to take up yoga under a professional, and it was truly an eye-opening experience.

Until then I had been practicing what little yoga I knew, by myself, with the aid of follow along videos resulting in my practice actually hurting me. My practice had no plan or purpose and hence in the past I had been failing, getting frustrated and giving up. Over the next year I stayed consistent with my practice, enjoying the good days and compassionately pulling through the bad.

Over time the changes in my body and mind was indeed marvelous. Visible weight loss, the sciatica was all gone, I felt energetic and motivated to pursue healthier choices. No, this does not mean I am a superhuman now with a flawless body that caters to social norms. I still have my struggles that comes with hormones, age and the occasional bug of the season. But my practice holds space for me, inspiring to perform when fit or cope when ill.

It has helped me build endurance and speed up recovery. I learned to be compassionate with myself and somewhere along the way got led to becoming a teacher of yoga. Following a year of learning yoga as a student I spent the next 4 years learning as a teacher, gradually exploring other movement forms like pilates, primal and functional training.

When I am not teaching, I make time to further my knowledge of human anatomy by taking up certification programs. Meditation is an integral part of my everyday practice and I attend several mindfulness and life coaching programs to hone that skill. Since starting to teach I’ve had the privilege of working with and helping so many people consistently build a sustainable fitness regimen, some of who still continue to be a part of my yoga community.

I hope to keep sharing, learning and building a community that inspires intentional fitness for compassionate healing.

Core values that I believe in

Collaboration

Building a relationship with the practitioners is important to my learning process as a facilitator. Being able to have an insight into their lifestyles gives me a better understanding of what I need to deliver in my teaching.

Empowerment

“Action without knowledge is useless, knowledge without action is futile” – Abu Bakr. I believe educating about the workings of human body movement and functionality makes for a more mindful and appreciative practitioner resulting in progressive wellbeing.

Dedication

Visible change comes from making movement a habit with fundamental self-upkeep as the goal. Showing up efficiently and motivating practitioners to stay the course, for me, is an essential part of being a teacher.

Integrity

Maintaining a clean business ethic and harbouring comfort based relationships are pivotal foundations on which evam yoga is set on. I emphasise on ensuring everyone involved has a safe space to feel welcome and practice.

“My mission is to help people develop the art of
self-cultivation through intention & compassion in their practice”
